Remove passwords from Word 2003 *.doc files

We just terminated a user from her administrative position. She had password protected some of the files. Is there any way to clear those passwords?

Only if you know the password.

Word help clearly says that there is no way to clear the password. Probably the best thing to do is copy the info in another document and save it.

If the document is just protected for forms, you can insert the form into a
fresh document (using Insert | File), and that will remove the protection.
If there is a password to modify, you can open and Save As. But if there is
a password to open, you will have to get the password from the former
employee.

I'm still waiting to see a post from someone who paid their money and were
happy with the result. I'm not saying this sort of software doesn't work;
just that I've never met or seen a post from anyone not associated with the
supplier (as in your case) who'll vouch for it.

I'm curious what led you to believe that timatey is associated with the supplier. I didn't see anything in the post that indicated they are associated with the supplier or even vouching for the software.

I wondered the same thing. I can't find anything at the LastBit site to
indicate that Tim is affiliated with it. The article to which he referred is
a good description of the types of protection and encryption in Word.

Try doing a Google on "Timatey" ... It finds a couple of hundred newsgroup
posts, ALL relating to password recovery, ALL recommending that you visit
the LastBit site. Almost identical wording, in several languages including
Russian. Now try a Google on "Vitas Ramanchauskas" (the CEO of LastBit
Software) ...

Guerilla marketing rides again!

Hello Jezebel,
Search Google "Word password recovery". There are a lot of software.
I'm sure you find something free and works good!
You can have a look Word Tips sites to find useful advice.
Helen.

Oh yes? Have you ever found any password recovery software that was "free
and works good" ? I mean, thanks and all, but your contributions to the
forum would be more valuable if you read the thread first.
