Remove strikethrough and balloons from deleted text in word 2

I am trying to just display revision bars in the margin for changed text.
However, word 2003 automatically defaults to putting in strikethrough for
deleted text when balloons are shut off. How can I do what I am looking to
do?

In Tools > Options > Track Changes, change the dropdown for Deletions
from "Strikethrough" to "(none)".

The subject was cut off this is Word 2003 and that feature is not available.

If it is really Word 2003, then that option *is* available. If it is
actually Word 2002, see
