Removing HTML: Going with Truly Plain Text

S

Sam Elowitch

I hate it when people send me HTML e-mail. To make matters worse, when I
uncheck Format --> HTML to convert to plain text, the conversion is
incomplete. Images remain in place, certain colors stay where they are, and
sometimes the cursor is difficult to see as a result.

Is there any way to make my incoming e-mails truly "plain" text?

Lots of other people do too.

You can't toggle that option with incoming messages. I'm guessing you're
referring to replies to HTML messages.

The easiest way to get around that problem would be to go to Entourage ->
Mail & News Preferences, click the "Compose" tab, and under "General", set
the Mail format to "Plain text". Then, under the "Reply & Forward" tab,
uncheck the option to "Reply to all messages in the format in which they
were sent".

Now all of your replies will be in plain text.

If you not only want to send & reply in plain text but also want to only see
plain text, download Allen Watson's "Strip HTML" script from ScriptBuilders
@ MacScripter.
<http://www.scriptbuilders.net/category.php?search=Strip+HTML>

Drag the "Strip HTML" script to
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Script Menu Items/

Then, go to Tools -> Rules, and create a new rule that looks like this:
* Execute actions if all criteria are met
IF All Messages
THEN Run AppleScript Strip HTML

Check the "Enabled" box and click OK. Drag the rule to the top of the list
if it isn't there already. From now on all mail you receive will be in
plain text format.
