I saw the posts for changing the default color and line thickness in Word 2008. Got it to work, but I can't figure out how to remove the 3-D 'shadow' effect that seems to be part of the line. Any suggestions?

You'd think it would be in the Format> AutoShape dialog, wouldn't you? :)

Use the Formatting Palette of the Toolbox. When you select the line go to
the Shadow section & clear the check.
