rename style ?

Hi

Using Word '97

Actually I want to copy a style but I could not find a way to do that
(within the same template i.e.). So I tried to copy it to another template,
rename it and copy it back using the new name. But for some reason the
renamed style (say Style1) is now called

Style1;NewStyle1

there's no way I can strip of the ole name!

Hope someone can help me out

Hmmm,

For some styles it works ok. I'm trying to copy Heading 1 and that doesn't
work.

My problem actually is that my Headings in general should be numbered, but
sometimes out documents also holds appendices, which should not be numbered.
So my idea was to create a style similar to Heading 1 (Say Heading), but not
numbered. Then I would set Heading1 to be based on this style and add
numbering. Then I would create another style AppendixHeading which would
also be based on the new Heading style but maintains not numbered. Isn't
that the way to do it ?

You can't rename the heading styles. The WOPR (commercial) add-in has a
utility to copy a style's attributes to a new name.

The built-in heading styles in Word are "magic" and best not tampered with
(aside from modifying their formatting). That is, don't try to base other
styles on the headings or vice versa.
