renaming calendars

John

Hi,

How can I rename calendars in MS Project?
I opened the Enterprise Global, selected Tool - Organizer (tab - Calendar).
I see a option to rename a calender, but then an error message appears
("Enterprise item cannot be renamed. This is an enterprise global item that
can only be renamed in an checked out enterprise global"). I thought I just
did that.
Can someone help me with this?

In the future, please post your Project Server questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is dedicated to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question, do
the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and connect to Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global
3. Click Tools - Organizer
4. Click the Calendars tab
5. In the list of the Calendars on the right (in the Enterprise Global),
select the calendar to rename
6. Click the Rename button, rename the calendar, and then click the OK
button
7. Click the Close button
8. Save and close the Enterprise Global file
9. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

Please note, however, the system will not allow you to rename the Standard
calendar. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

I tried your suggestion, but now I receive the following error message:
The project contains non-enterprise calendars. You project server does not
allow non-enterprise base calendars, but this project contains non-enterprise
base calendars.

I problably am still doing something wrong. How can I find and recognise
non-enterprise calendars? Or is there a server option that is preventing me
from renaming a calendar? I do have administrator rights....

At a minimum, you will need to help us to help you by answering these
questions:

1. Precisely what steps did you follow? What calendar(s) did you rename
and what did you call them?

2. Regarding the error message, when and how do you get this message?

3. Do you see the error message on only one project or on all projects?
Which project(s)?

4. Regarding the project(s) with the error messages, ow did you get these
projects into the Project Server system? Did you create them from scratch
or from an enterprise template in Project Server, did you import them using
the Import Projects wizard, or did you simply open an .mp file and click
File - Save As?

Let us know the answers to all questions and we will try to help you.

Hi Dale,

I followed the following steps:

1. Launched Microsoft Project Pro and connected to the project server (as an
administrator)
2. Opened the Enterprise Global
3. Selected Tools - Organizer and clicked the Calendars tab
4. In het list of the Calendars on the right (in the Enterprise Global), we
have a list of approximately 30 calendars.
5. I select one of the calendars ("40h - fulltime") and click the rename
button
6. I choose a new name ("40hours - fulltime") and click the OK button
7. The following error message appears: The project contains non-enterprise
calendars. You project server does not allow non-enterprise base calendars,
but this project contains non-enterprise base calendars.

I have never seen that error before. What Service Pack are you running on
Project Server and Microsoft Project Professional? What happens if you
delete the calendar in question using Tools - Organizer - Calendars, and
then recreate it using the new name? Do you still get the error? Let us
know.

Hi Dale,

We are running on MS Project 2003 sp2 and Project Server 2003.
In our test environment, I tried the following:
- open the Enterprise Global
- delete all custom calendars
- create a new one
- try to rename the new calendar
Unfortenately the same error appears.

I'm fresh out of ideas. Perhaps it is time to break out the credit card and
to give Microsoft Support a call. Sorry.

Hi,

I think that's a good idea. Thanks for your support and suggestions...
