renaming normal.dot

I have located my normal.dot files, however, when I try to
change the name, as instructed, I get an error message
that tells me "internet explorer will shut down." What
does this mean? Is there another way to change the name?

I closed Word and was able to make the change. Now I've
lost all of my auto texts!! How can I transfer them to
the new normal.dot?

Use the Organizer (Tools | Templates and Add-ins | Organizer). You must have
your new Normal.dot open in one pane and the renamed one open in the other.
You can then copy the AutoText entries from one to the other.

So is Internet Explorer running when you try to rename normal.dot? Try
closing ALL applications before renaming normal.dot.
