renumbering footnotes

How do you alter the footnote numbers when the autonumber has got out of
sequence. For instance mine jump from 10 to 12 although the information for
12 is correct it should read as number 11 and I can`t change it.Many thanks

There isn't any way to do it because the numbers shouldn't get out of sync
in the first place! However, if you are tracking changes the numbering will
still include any unaccepted deletions. If you accept them, the numbers
should sort themselves out.

I had this same problem and found this solution helpful. I think I deleted a
few footnotes in the citation section rather than deleting the footnote
number in the text. This is my guess as to where it went wrong.

To fix it, I went to view markup and found the footnote numbers that were
missing. I rejected the deletions of those footnotes. Then I went back to the
text without markups and deleted the footnotes correctly (by selecting the
number in the text and hitting delete) and the numbers corrected themselves.
Thanks for the help!!!
