I want the styles to appear in the FORMAT Window (which opens to the right of the document (when VIEW is clicked on the menu bar) such that the styles I use most appear at the top of the list in the order that I define, rather than in alphabetical order. I can do this in the WORD 2007 for the PC. How do I do it in WORD 2008 for the Mac?

Sorry, but that isn't an option in Office 2008... Alpha is the only order.

You can use the list at the bottom of the Formatting Palette to choose
Available Styles which will limit those displayed in the Palette to only
Heading 1 thru Heading 3, Normal, those Built-in Styles actually used, plus
any User-Defined Styles.

You can also assign keystrokes to Styles in order to avoid using the lists
any more than absolutely necessary.

For some ideas on this, take a look at page 97 of some notes on the way I
use Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are available
as a free download from the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html).

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. If you decide to
read more widely than the item I've referred to, it's important to read the
front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you can select
some Word settings that will allow you to use the document effectively.]
