Repair of Corrupt Local Cache .MPC file?

J

John D.

I am getting several errors including a total crash of MSPP 2007 when trying
to open a project directly from the cache while on line or off line.

This is a sub project.

Due to a SAN outage and a couple of subsequent SQL outages things appear to
have become badly misaligned. I had to keep working off-line in the
consolidated schedule. Changes to the sub projects saved locally, but would
not save once the server came back to life. There were numerous aborted save
jobs in the midst of all this.

I had to go so far as to delete the entire consolidated / master schedule
and sharepoint site from the server. Then the master project could be saved
locally as a file and then saved to the server. It allowed two of three sub
projects to be saved with it, but left one behind.

So I am now left with one that will not even open from the cache off-line
without crashing MSPP 2007.

My hope is that there is some kind of . MPC repair tool out there, but I
have not seen one yet.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
John

Have you had the PM navigate on their computer to C:\Documents and
Settings\PM Name\Application Data\Microsoft\MS Project\Cache\GUID Folder and
delete the MPC File for that project?

You can always delete and recreate your connection to Project Server.
Go to Start>Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools>Microsoft
Office Project Server 2007 Accounts. Delete and recreate entry for
connecting to your Project Server. I have seen where this connection
becomes corrupted, so maybe this will fix your issue.

Thanks for the replies.

Sean, yep, tried that. Also, and unfortunately the cache copy is the good
copy.

Jim, haven't tried that but will keep in mind.

Update - Since I could get at the one in the cache and it was good there I
took a swing at exporting the whole shootin' match to Excel. After a few
tries to get the required columns close enough for government work, it was
successfully imported back into MSPP'07 saved to an .MPP and then to the
server. Fortunately the links to the master numbered only about 10 so the
re-link was of minimal effort.

Master and Sub have been re-united once again.

So, it would appear as if we have cheated the pain of re-work again.

BTW - zipping up a copy of the cache regularly saved my bacon on this one.

Best,
John
