Repeated error message on closing

Word 2003 with SP1, and on auto updates
MS XP Pro with all latest updates

When ever I close a document, ? especially after opening and not scrolling
through to the end of the document (just a time thing) i repeatedly get an
error message stating that

"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve program
name. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

I've bombed the site for a few days with all such error reports every so
often over the last few months, but no luck with a fix.

Looking at article 832858 seems like the answer but even after disabling the
background saves and having noted that SP1 is installed, I get the same
problem. I note that the error is recorded at offset 350052e5 which differs
from the above problem suggesting it is related but not the same as the
above.

I get the same problem on another computer with the same version of MS
Office and XP and Norton Internet / virus protection... ? a generic problem

Any ideas? I wondered if there is a problem in MS Word trying to locate a
file / save a file, virus scan etc.... but
