Repeated Navigation Links with File System Paths in FrontPage 2000

David

Hello,

I have customer that is taking over the editing of a web
site that I had designed with FrontPage. This customer is
using FrontPage 2000, and she has complete local copy of
the web site.

After she publishes changed pages to the web server, a
problem occurs on the changed pages. The changed pages
that contain navigation link bars (text links) have those
link bars repeated (they show up twice). Also, the second
set of link bars reference paths to her local copy of the
web site (for example, G:\Web\about.htm is where one of
the hyperlinks points).

Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know how to stop
it from recurring?

Thanks in advance,
David

It sounds as if they are right clicking files in
Windows Explorer and then selecting Edit
from the context menu. Although this will
open the page in the FrontPage editor,
FrontPage will not / can not maintain the correct
link structure because the *Web* is not open.

Tell your client to Always:
1. Open FrontPage
2. Select File > Open web..... and open
the local web and then make changes.

Make sure your client has all Office 2000 Service Releases
installed, and all Windows updates.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, try

Thanks, Steve. I already looked for that. I verified that
she is opening the site properly, using File > Open Web
and not simply right clicking on files.

Thanks,
David

Thanks, Jim.

I'll point her to
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/ and have her
make sure that all of her Office updates are up to date.
If that doesn't work, I might simply ask her to upgrade to
the latest version of FrontPage. Other versions of
FrontPage (my version is 2003) don't seem to have this
problem when publishing to the server.

Thanks,
David
