Repeating Cell Entries Between Sheets

E

Ed O'Brien

I have eight sheets in a workbook and want to repeat an entry in a cell from
one sheet to another.

For example in sheet/cell Carl-Summary L3 I type the figure 60. In sheet
Main Summary I want this figure to repeat in cell C6 and so on.

Can anyone give me the formula for this. I've tried all I know.

TIA

Hi Ed

One way:

In Main Summary C6 this formula

='Carl-Summary'!L3

the hyphen makes it necessary to add
single quotes around the sheet name.

To avoid this, use underscore _ instead of hyphen -

=Carl_Summary!L3

Thanks, Leo. I tried that and - mysteriously - I get what looks like a date
19/02/1900. The figure typed in L3 is 50. It is not a formulated number but
merely typed in.

Actually, Leo, I have been trying this as I don't want a load of zeros.
=IF('CARL-Summary'!L3=0," ",'CARL-Summary'!L3) and I got the same result -
that peculiar date.

Well, now I know why... The formatting had somehow switched to "Date".

All is now okay. Thanks for your patience!

You're welcome Ed.

The first day Excel can handle is 01/01/1900. When you enter 50
in a cell, that is formatted as date, you will get day number
50, which is 19/02/1900 (50 = 31 (for January) + 19 (for February))

Thanks for the feedback :)

How do you know all this....
Great interest in Excel and a lot of hard work :)
Do you teach Excel, or something?
I'm retired now, but I taught Excel for many years and did
a fair amount of development in Excel too.

I'm retired also, but have only been introduced to Excel for about a year.
You are clearly a very useful person to know and it's encouraging to know
you're around.

Best wishes,

Ed.

Thanks for the nice words, Ed!
Normally I help in the Danish Excel group, but right now everyone seems
to be on vacation, so I thought I would pay a short visit to the English
groups :)
