Repercussion of working in 2007 compatibility mode

What are the repercussions of saving documents as non-xml and working in
compatibility mode? There is talk of our company saving all documents in
Office 2007 with the non-xml format (.doc, .xls, .ppt, etc) so that there is
a greater likelihood that external recipients of our documents do not have
problems opening them if they do not use Office or are not up to 2007
version. Does anyone know of reasons why we should not do this? What
functionalities do we lose?

Hi Krystal,

In compatibility mode you basically have the same formatting features as in previous versions and can't fully use the new features.
In some cases the features for 'editable graphic' type items are available but when you save the document they become 'regular'
(uneditable) graphics
