replace text in cell that already has text

Peter

Is it possible to replace existing text in a cell with new text derived from
an argument in another cell. For example, if cell A1 contains the text "CAR"
could cell B2 perform a function to determine the type of car and then the
result, say "FORD", is pasted into cell A1 to replace it?
Thanks

A formula can only return a value to the cell that contains the formula. It
can't change another cell.

You can put your formula in another column, copy the formulas and Edit/Paste
Special and select the Values option. You want to paste over the formulas
themselves. Then you can delete the original column.
