Replacement size when pasting graphic image on graphic image

In Word 2000, when copying a graphic to the clipboard and then pasting over
an existing graphic, the newly pasted graphic would automatically resize
itself to the original shape. In the new Word 2003, the new graphic has to
be resized after pasting. Is there a way to set this back to the old default
where it will automatically resize itself? Your advice is appreciated.

Hi msiegert,

Word 2000 doesn't behave that way for me. Maybe the picture you're thinking
were about the same size.

However, if you insert a textbox into your document and paste a picture into
that, the picture will resize to fit the space available. So, if the picture
you want to replace is in a textbox, the replacement will be limited to the
same space.

Cheers

Hi macropod -

Thanks so much for your response. I create manuals and used to insert
screenshots overtop of other screenshots all the time when we used Word 2000.
It always resized according to the original screenshot. As soon as we
upgraded to 2003, it stopped behaving in that manner. If your Word 2000 is
not behaving the same way as ours, do you think it could possibly be a
setting in Word or even Windows? I'm not aware of any outside software that
would have affected the graphic paste settings.

Thanks again - your response is appreciated!

Hi msiegert,

There isn't a 'setting' in Word to control this behaviour. Pasting into text
boxes works, though.

If you're using screenshots, then of course they'll all be the same size and
when you paste one over the other when captured at the same resolution. That
may be the key to your problem. If your new system is running at a different
screen resolution to the old one (eg 1280*1024 instead of 1024*768 or
800*600), then screen dumps from the new system will be larger. If this is
what's happened, try setting your system to the same resolution as you used
before for this exercise.
