Hi
I have had to replace an onld database that was too big and slow for what we
now require, I have set up a new DB using 2007, better structure, better
formulas and less redundant data.
The new DB updates and runs beautifully as a stand alone(across the
network), as soon as I try opening any of the apps that sorce the DB excel
seems to get stuck in a loop of opening, I have tried a variety of DB setups,
had the IT guys change the security, nothing seems to help. The files open,
but do that excel updating process and that can go for hours and hours, I did
work out that if I press escape that all the data is there, just it does not
seem to finish the process without being escaped. All the relevant data in
the new DB is in the sam place as the old one, everything should run
perfectly but is not. Have tried re-doing the whole thing a number of times
eliminating errors, removing data, changed virus scanner setting, made
read/write, tried a variety of different formulas to mimic the origional DB,
have also tried re-linking all the data, nothing seems to work, the front end
files just wont complete opening, unless left for about 7 or 8 hours, when
the data is actually there already.
The origional DB was sorsing from 4 files, where the new one is sorsing from
3, the new DB is smaller and contains hardly any redundant information.
When I am instating the new DB all I am doing is re-naming it to the old
DB's name and putting in the same location on the network so as not to have
to re-design all front end apps.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
