Replacing embedded Pictures

A quick question regarding updating a Publisher 2003
document.

I have a newsletter template that is updated on a month.
In Publisher 2000, I could copy a chart or table from
Excel, then click on the object in Publisher and paste
special as picture (an embedded picture). The new,
updated chart would replace the old one with the same
location, dimensions, grouping, etc. I could update the
entire newsletter in several minutes.

Now, the new object comes with a different location/size
and I am forced to reposition/resize everything
individually (like in Word/PowerPoint). Can I no longer
update like I used to in Publisher?
