Replacing Old Drive using MS FP

Using a Gateway G6-350 / Pentium II / 350mhz / Win98
----------

Planning on purchasing a new CD-RW drive.

---------

Should I unistall the original software that came with the computer (5 years
old) which was:

Adaptec Direct CD
Adaptec Direct CD Reader
Adaptec Easy CD Creator

---------------

Or, will the new software which comes with the drive overwrite the existing
software?

Many thanks for your response.

depends what software comes with the new drive?

Geoff,
I'm considering a:
Plextor 52x24x52 CD-RW Drive, Model PX-W5224TA/SW

In it comes:

Roxio Easy CD Creator
Roxio DirectCD
PlexTools
Roxio PhotoSuite
Dantz Retrospect

Many thanks,
TR

Go to device manager and remove the old drive.
Shut down.
Physically remove the old drive and install the new one.
Start the computer and if prompted place the new cd in the cd drive.

should just install over the top, if there are any issues
you may get th eoption to remove or uninstall previous
versions. I wouldn't worry too much about it even to the
point that the current software may recognise your new drive
and be happy to use it.

Only advantage of later versions of software may be
increased options / configuration. Am only really talking
about the burning software here, other software is probably
optional or you may have quite suitable stuff already
installed eg image manipulation SW

good luck

Tony,

You should un-install any CD burning software that came with the current installed drive as most
software supply with a CD drive is tied to the specific drive it came with and will not work with
any other drive.
