Replies not showing original message

I use Outlook 2000 and sometimes when I reply to a
message the original message does not show when I am
responding to it. If I CC myself on the message I see my
reply and the original message. I'm so confused. I
noticed it happening when I tried to look down in the
original message for reference and it wasn't there. But
then on other messages everything is there. I have the
settings set to show the original message in replies and
forwards. Any suggestions?
