I read and respond to my two Yahoo mail accounts in Outlook 98 via
POP3, but on occasion also read/reply directly on Yahoo Mail's web
interface.
Today I received an email on my primary Yahoo account from
[email protected] (I'm masking actual addresses, of course). I was
reading this email on the Yahoo webmail site and hit Reply (not
Reply-All). In the To field, what popped up was
"[email protected],[email protected]." But when I would hit Reply for
the same message in Outlook, the only address that would show up was
the expected one, namely [email protected].
Now, this seemed odd to me, so I attempted to replicate it with three
of my own email accounts. I went into my primary Yahoo account's
settings (let's say it's "[email protected]"), and put the
following in the Reply-To field in Options:
"[email protected],[email protected]". I then
mailed this test email to "[email protected]".
I then downloaded the message I had just mailed to
[email protected] to Outlook via POP3. Then I went to
the Yahoo webmail site for my-other-yahoo-account, pulled up the email
there (I leave emails on the mail server), and hit Reply. When I did
this, it did indeed put both of the Options-specified "Reply-to"
addresseses into the "To" field, i.e.,
"[email protected],[email protected]".
BUT...When I went back to Outlook, pulled up this test message and hit
Reply, it ALSO put BOTH of the Reply-to addresses in the To field.
So I still have no explanation of why hitting Reply on my email from
[email protected] could have added an extra address ONLY when I did
it via Yahoo webmail, and not Outlook.
So can anyone who's had the fortitude to make it this far into my post
explain the dicrepancy? What kind of service or approach could
[email protected] be using that would cause the additional reply
address to show up ONLY when I would reply via Yahoo webmail, and not
when I would reply via Outlook?
Did I inadvertently uncover something "sneaky" about
[email protected]?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
