REPLY using outlook 2003 won't work

Trying to reply to message received using Outlook 2003 (windows XP) doesn't
work. A few seconds later I get an error message staating that the message
was't relayed. However if I send the same message as a new message and NOT a
reply it goes through smoothly.
Suggestions anybody how to fix it?

Authenticate to your outgoing server.
