replying to messages will not open Word

When choosing Reply to a message a box appears saying "Starting Microsoft
Office Word 2003 as your email editor" and then a new box appears saying
"Word is not available, not installed or is not the same version as Outlook.
The Outlook email editor will be used. An OLE registration error occured. Run
setup again for the program".
What is going on? Any ideas anyone? The program was working fine this
morning. If I reinstall the Office package, do I have to back up all of my
Outlook stuff, contacts, messages etc or can I just reinstall on top of the
existing copy?

Have you tried simply rebooting your computer first? If that doesn't work
go to the Help menu in Outlook and try a Detect & Repair.

Okay, so you have Outlook 2003 installed. Do you actually have Word
installed? All we know is that you have Outlook 2003 but know nothing about
what else is installed. Is MS Office 2003 installed, and did you include
Word 2003 when you installed Office 2003? Is it version 2003 of Word to
match Outlook's version (the versions for the two MUST match)?

Right, first of all I installed the whole Office 2003 package at the same
time. So, the version should be the same.
Second, I have rebooted the computer after I used the installation disc to
do a repair job. No luck with either steps.

Try this:

1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and
then click OK:

Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll

2. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.

Well, that is weird since I installed the package several months ago and it
has been fine until now. Anyway, I will right up that little piece of
helpfulness from you and go merrily on my way.

See if this helps. Click Start>Run and enter

regsvr32 ole32.dll

in the Open field and click OK.

Did you recently install any other program or update?

Thanks Ben,

This worked a treat. Can you tell me though if this was to do with a recent
update as a lot of people seem to have had the problem around the same time.

Thanks alot,
Ken.

Thank You Very Much, Your solution worked.

I was having the same problem at home and at work. I've re-installed Office
a couple times. It worked on one PC but did fix my problem on my home PC.
I don't know what caused it but this is much easier than re-installing Office.

cannot reply nor start a new email with out this message popping up and
freezing outlook. was working fine for the first week after I installed it
