Dieter have you contacted these companies to ascertain if you could
truly produce and redistribute a Public Domain Freeware solution with
their libraries?
No

That's what I meant by legwork.

OK. I will do it and post the results here.

Dieter don't stop looking on your end quite yet but I think I have found
a library. They have agreed to allow me to distrbute a
Freeware/Shareware app with their DLL. I'm tied up for a few days but
have downloaded their DLL and in initial testing it works quite well
with the first method of converting reports to PDF. More testing is
required.

it sounds great!

I have made a request to synactics (PDF In-The-Box) but no answer until now
:-(.
I have spent one hour to research for a email-address of isedquickpdf and
found that it seems that this company has some problems.
At last I found the adress from the general manager and sent a request but
no answer until now :-(.

So please let me know if your testing is successfully.

Hi Stephen,

here is the answer from synactis:

"Thank you for your interest in PDF In-The-Box.
Yes, you can redistribute our library, even in a public freeware solution,
according to licence terms (no derivative work, etc)."

I am also VERY interested in this capability... Please let me know if there
is ANYTHING I can do to help... I am sure that I speak for everyone,
micro$ofts delay in integrating PDF with their system has been bad for
everyone!

I am waiting for word back from the developers of the PDF library on an
issue. Their metafile import functionality does not seem very happy with
the Metafiles generated by the Snapshot format. If this issue gets
resolved, and it should, then I will be able to post a solution in a
very short time.

The developer has agreed to resolve this issue but it will be 3-4 weeks
before his current project is completed. I will post back when I have
the modified library in my hands.

A while ago I wrote a Visual basic DLL wrapper arounf Ghostscript.

It emulates Ad*be Distiller perfectly and is currenly in use in several
organisation.

I am more than happy to send the DLL and the source as I cannot really sell
it.

The principle would be to print to a PS file, Run the PS file throught eh
PDF, and then do what you want with the generated PDF.

Hope this helps

The mods are completed and the modified library will start BETA testing next
week. I'll post here when I have finished hooking up the PDF library to my
Snapshot to Metafile class.

Hi Stephen,
great that you really made it!

Here are the results of my first Tests:

A2003:
Doesn't work at all :-(
The error-message is of course in German because I'm using a German Access.
"Das Format, in dem Sie das aktuelle Objekt auszugeben versuchen, ist nicht
verfügbar"
The Title of the MsgBox: ReportToPDF:2282

A2002:
Can't open with A2002!
Open and Run with A2003:
The same behavior as above

A2000:
Error-Message: "Sorry...Page Size not supported. Please select a different
Report to Export"
Title: fCreateSnap.fParseSnap:-2147220958

I think the reason is my German Access or/and my German Windows?
Or is the reason the German papersize?

It's a known bug. It happens when a report is formatted improperly so that
a single report page will not fit on one output page. Usually it's simply
the margin settings are too large for the current printer. I'll bet you are
either working with a a non US page size or your current printer is an Ink
Jet and the bottom margin is greater than the .5 inch setting on the sample
reports.
Open any of the sample Reports in design view, modify the paper size or
Margins to allow the report to fit onto your current page setup. Try the
conversion process again and it will work properly. I just found the OLE
Structured Storage
information required to fix this issue. I will add logic to remove this
error in the next release.

I have posted A2K and A2K2 versions on my Web site last night.

Because I thought that the problem is the papersize, i have changed the
papersize of my default printer to US page size, but it didn' work.

I can't open the Reports in design view, because your downloads are MDE.

I have tested the output with my own MDB and my own report. The error is the
same :-(.

I have the new logic/code in testing now Deiter. It will remove the error
you are seeing and allow the solution to work in non USA locations.

I have tested the 2003 Version 1.8:

same error as before:
"Das Format, in dem Sie das aktuelle Objekt auszugeben versuchen, ist nicht
verfügbar"
The Title of the MsgBox: ReportToPDF:2282

Testet with my own MDB and a report in german Papersize (A4)
