One approach would be to create a master project containing all of the
projects in the portfolio and then apply a custom field that displays only
the task you wish to analyze. If you are using Project Server 2003, you can
quickly create a master project by doing the following:
1. Log into PWA with the proper permissions to see all projects
2. Navigate to the Project Center
3. Select the first project in any column other than the Project Name
column
4. Press and hold the Control key, then select every other project
5. After you have selected every project, click the Open... button
Project Server will launch Microsoft Project Professional and automatically
create a master project for you. Hope this helps.
Dale,
I tried this, it wanted to open every project not create a master
project, it said "You have selected 10 or more projects to be opened in
Project. Depending on the size of the selected projects, this action may
take a significant amount of time. You can choode to open the projects as
read-only or read-write."
am i doing it right??
never mind that response, got it working, do i publish this project so it
will come up in Project Center and use the Report i have created at a Project
Level to pull out all data??
got that one working as well, but when i click on the master project in
project centre it only shows me the projects names inside the master project,
it does not show all details. What do i do??
What you wish to do cannot be accomplished in PWA, either in the Project
Center or detailed Project views. If you wish to view the current state of
a specific task in all projects in your portfolio, you need to open all of
the projects in a master project in Microsoft Project Professional (which
you did) and apply a custom filter to show only the tasks you wish to see
(which you apparently have not done yet). Create the custom filter and
apply it, and let us know how it works.
