Repost: Column changes width

When I move a column to a new location in my table, either by dragging or
cut-and-paste, it changes width to match an adjacent column. Automatically
Resize is turned off. This is Word 2000 with Win 2000. Is there a way to
avoid this, and have my column keep the original width after it's moved?
