Republish start date information

B

Bobby

Hello. If I changed how tasks are linked, or the start date of a task, is
this information sent to the server with a Republish All? In other words, if
I don't know which republish option to use, will Republish All republish
everything (all assignments or all task information changes such as actuals,
starts) regardless of what did and didn't change?

Thanks,

Excellent question. When you change the dependencies between tasks, which
results in a change in Start/Finish dates on dependent tasks, you can click
Collaborate - Publish - All Information to assure that all relevant
information is updated to Project Server. In you manually enter actuals in
the Microsoft Project plan, and you want to "push" that information to team
member's timesheets in PWA, you must republish the project this way:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
2. Select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option
3. Click the OK button

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for sharing that response, I have a further question (whioch I posted
but no one answered).

If I make a change to a resource's actual hours, which also triggers the task
as an eligible change (the finish date changes).

Is it still necessary to perform a re-publish assignment to overwrite the
work entered by the resources? Or will the actuals get updated by performing
a Publish New and Changed assignments since it was flagged as a changed task.

It seems to me, that if you did a publish New and Change only that
potentially, only some of the changes on a task would get published. In this
case, just the date change and not the actuals.

If you manually enter actuals in the Microsoft Project plan, and the actuals
change the Finish date or Duration of the task, you should do the following:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - All Information to "push" the new schedule
to every area of PWA
2. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments, select the
"Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option, and then click OK to
"push" the actuals to the team member's timesheet in PWA

Thus, you need to do this in two steps. Hope this helps.
