request a delivery or read receipt on a email to be resent

I'm trying to resend an email and request a delivery receipt. I did not use
this option on the original email. Option on resend is grayed out.

What version of Outlook are you using? When you open the item from Sent
Items, click Actions | Resend this Item. When the editor opens with the
item you should be able to go to Options and request a delivery receipt.
