"Requesting Virus Scan" message keeps appearing

I am running Windows 98SE and Microsoft Office 2002 and I have AVG Antivirus
free edition installed.
Every time I open an Excel or Word file, a message "Requesting Virus Scan"
appears at the bottom left corner and the file opens after a momentary
delay. How do I turn this off ? Tried reducing the Macro security levels but
that did not help.

Tried turning off all scan settings in AVG - even disabled the product.
Problem continues.

Norton Antivirus was installed on the system several months ago before I
shifted to AVG. Do you think that remnants of NAV may still be causing this
problem ??

You might want to consider keeping your Norton Virus scan.
Its there because of the number of virus that get in through macros in
both Word and Excel. If you try out a number of macros or download a
lot from the web its worth the aggravation of a few wasted minutes to
avoid a virus that will tie you up for a weekend trying to clean up
your system, as well as the loss of data.
But if you don't go out much and only work with inhouse macros and
data, it might not be worth the aggravation.
