reset button on search page

Ok, I understand I can't remove the reset button. That's ok, how do I make it work then?

It does work...but not in the way that you would think.

If you enter text to search for, and have not done a search, then the reset button will clear the
field.
If you have done a search, then the reset button doesn't clear the field.
