I would like to reset the index page in a website without having the existing
links in the structure pointing to the new index.

If using FP navigation, you can only have a single home page within a web, what is that your are
trying to accomplish?

Rename the old index page to anything.htm and let FrontPage update the links, and then create a new
index.htm page.
