Resizing a single cell

is it possible to resize (change width for example) to a single cell rather than the entire column? if so how?

No, width is a property of the column, not the cell.

If you MUST, you could merge adjoining cells, but that nearly always
causes more trouble than it's worth.

You know, a lot of people ask this, and I can't for the life of me figure
out what they are trying to do that this would solve. As John said, it can't
be done. However, can you describe what you are trying to do, what the
resultant sheet would look like if you could do what you wanted, and how you
would refer to the cell and those around it? Thanks. Curious minds want to
know.
