Resizing Microsoft Word Picture

I'm following the local corporate practice of putting a picture into a
Microsoft Word Picture (M$WP), which itself is in a 2-row, 1-column
table. I would like maintain this practice. I notice that I can grab
the handle of the M$WP and shift-drag to resize it while maintaining
the aspect ratio. However, one has to keep one's cursor away from the
top of the screen to prevent autoscrolling, which wreaks havoc on the
shift-drag-resize (which maintains the aspect ratio). Therein lies
the problem. I am using the ruler to ensure that I resize the M$WP so
that it doesn't extend beyond the right margin for normal (body)
text. So my mouse must be close to the ruler, and this invariably
triggers autoscrolling.

I tried right-clicking on the M$WP to pull up a context menu, hoping
there would be a Properties option that opens up a Properties panel,
from which I can numerically enter in the M$WP width, while hopefully
maintaining the aspect ratio. No such Properties option. Probably
just as well, since I'm not sure what the width should be. The left
edge of the table is offset from the actual left edge, and the left
edge of the M$WP is further offset from the left edge of the table.

*How* does one do something as simple as resizing the M$WP to respect
the right margin, as defined by normal body text outside of the table
in which resides the M$WP?

Thanks.

A colleague pointed out that the M$WP properties can be accessed via
Format->Object.
