Resizing the Text Block of the Milestone Description

Hello, I am unable to resize the text block of the milestone description of a
timeline milestone shape. However, I can do this with the text block of the
bracket interval shape (which along with the milestone shape) is part of the
Visio timeline stencil. I can resize the bracket interval's description
field by activating the Text Block Tool and then clicking on the description
field. However, the milestone description field is locked. This is a
problem because as far as I can tell there is no wordwrap feature for the
description field of the milestone shaep. My workaround is to place the
insertion point where I want to end the text line and then press enter. I
would like, however, to just be able to grab a resizing handle and grow or
shrink the description field using the mouse. Any suggestions? TIA. Egan

Hello, I am unable to resize the text block of the milestone description of a
timeline milestone shape.

Select just the text description part of the milestone shape (the
shape is a group so make sure you select the right part of it), then
open the shape's shapesheet
menu Window -> Show Shapesheet
and change the Width and Height cells from their current formula
values to something like say, 20mm and 10mm. Close the shapesheet
window, now you can resize the text block with the mouse.

Paul, your solution works. Thank you for taking the time to answer my
question. Egan.

Hi Paul,

I am having a similar problem, but with some different shapes. I have tried
the fix you suggested, but to no avail. When I try to change the formula in
the Shape Sheet, it is replaced with a new formula that contains the value I
entered. For example, I type in "3" and hit "Enter". The formula bar for
the cell now shows "=3" and I still can't resize my box with my mouse.

The specific shapes that I'm struggling with are 1) a valve I built using
the Fluid Power - Valve Assembly stencil, and 2) anything I take from the
Equipment - Pumps stencil (Process Engineering -> Equipment - Pumps).

Do you have any more tricks up your sleeve for getting these to resize?

Thanks,
Jeff

select the shape, menu Format -> Protection

or if the shape is a grouped shape then you may have to dig into the
group to find out how the size is controlled.
