Resource based Enterprise calandars Vs Project Calandars

Hi All,

I have a question in regards to Calendars used within
Project Server.
I have build 3 enterprise resource calendars and assigned
them to the resources with in the resource pool. Now in my
company they want to assign different calendars to
contractors and Permanent staff because they both work
different hours a week.
The question I have is when you build the project plan,
which calendar takes priority?
If I build a project plan and set the project plan to 8
hours of work a day then assign a resource whom only work
7.35hrs a day is there a way to adjust this task to make
this 7.35hr day 1 day for this task, with out adjusting
the percentage of effort for this resource.
Is there a way to use different resource calendars in
project plans that have different hrs per day with out
having to adjust %effort per task??

When you create the initial project schedule of tasks and dependencies, the
Project Calendar determines the schedule for every task. To select the
Project Calendar, click Project - Project Information and select your
calendar.

When you assign resources to each task, the calendar for each resource
determines the schedule for each task. Thus, if you have a 5-day Duration
task spanning from Monday through Friday, and then assign Mickey Cobb to
that task and Mickey is taking a personal day on Wednesday, Microsoft
Project will recalculate the schedule of the task to span from Monday
through the following Monday.

Microsoft Project calculates the Duration of every task in the project using
a simple Duration Equation:

Duration = Work/(Units x Hours per day)

The Hours per day setting is found by clicking Tools - Options - Calendar.
The Hours per day setting is for the entire project and cannot be set on a
task by task basis. This setting should show the number of hours that the
majority of your people work, which in your case would be 8 hours. When you
assign a resource whose calendar shows them working less than 8 hours in a
day, then you will get "funky" Durations for those tasks, but the schedule
for the task will be absolutely correct, based on the resource's working
schedule.

If you are doing Work estimation for your tasks prior to assigning
resources, then you will need to readjust the Duration manually to 1 day
when you assign a resource whose calendar shows them working less than 8
hours per day. Hope this helps.
