Resource Enterprise pool and Peoplesoft

Karen

Is there anyway you can integrate our enterprise resource pool with a
peoplesoft HR system?

Many thanks

Karen -

As Chris said, Microsoft hasn't developed an SDK to connect Project
Server with PeopleSoft. It can be done, but it involves using the PDS
to call the data from a staging table. It requires some good .Net
development skills and an understanding of the PDS.

Inasmuch as the PDS is going away, we need to stop telling people to use it.

Unless Karen's organization is going to invest in P12, then they will
be using Project Server 2003. I haven't seen any plans from Microsoft
to retroactively turn off the PDS methods in Project Server 2003, so I
think that's a viable solution to her question. If her organization
will adopt P12, then by all means Karen, don't use the PDS.

Mark,

I don't allow for people buying this product without Software Assurance as
part of my thinking<g> However, even among those that don't, there's a
strong likelihood that, if they're successful with their deployment, they
will upgrade at some point. So why suggest terminal solutions to on-going
problems?

IMO, developing against the PDS is an option if it's the only one you have.

The Project Data Service is going away? What do you mean going away? Is
there going to be something in place of it? I have not touced the PDS for
any issues other than the Project Renamer tool, but as a Project Server
admin, I'm not sure what this means.

John:

At the recent Professional Developer's Conference, Microsoft announced the
highlights of a new architecture for Project Server with a lush API. This
aspect of the architecture doesn't affect an administrator much other than
the fact that there will be greater temptation to customize the application
because it becomes so much easier to do in the next version.<g> As an
administrator, you'll be much more impacted by the other architectural
changes than this one.

Thanks. Is there any place to find more information on this and other
Project Server topics?
