resource error on fixed duration task

Good Afternoon:

I just ran into a new error within MS Project 2002 Pro.

I was attempting to add a resource to a fixed duration,
effort driven task when I received the following errror:

"Microsoft Project cannot create an assignment with a
specific unit value on a fixed duration, effort driven
task. Once the assignment is created, you can edit the
unit value on the assignment"

I have tried taking the resource out of the resource pool
locally and adding them back from the server, with no
luck. I have been unable to find any setting in the
resource's information that is different than anyone else
I've been using.

Does anyone have any information that might help?
