Resource groups and leveling

Hi,

I've been searching for an add-in to MSP2K (standalone) which would
extend the Resource Leveling capabilities to allow it to switch around
resources based on skills and availabilities.

Such a tool would require the ability to manage resource groups and
individual resource availabilities within the groups. It would extend
MSP to allow the assignment of a group to a task rather than an actual
resource. When levelling the project MSP would then work out the best
possible shedule based on resource availabilities within the pool.

Has anyone come accross such a tool?

Thx

Try looking at the companion products listed at the project MVP site:
http://project.mvps.org/comprods.htm

The alternative is to look into the 2003 project/server edition. It
provides the abilities to define generic resources, skills, and a resource
substitution wizard that accomplishes what you seem to be asking for.

Hi John, Thomas (no I am not quoting Lady Chatterley's lover)

I looked into this (because a few years ago I had a similar question from a
customer). One of the companion products vaguely hints at this (Oasys
something); you could look into that.
As for Server, mind you, the Resource substitution wizzard facilitates the
manual replacement of a generic resource by a real one, it doesn't calculate
anything nor will oit replace resources for you.

Hope this helps,

If you are using Project Server, the Resource Substitution Wizard will
replace either Generic or human resources with human resources who have the
right skills and the availability to perform the tasks. Using this tool
requires a great deal of preparation and requires the setup of a custom
Skills outline code field that the Wizard can use in matching resources with
like skills. Hope this helps.
