Resource plan - kow it communicate with Database

Hello,

I have error message when works with Resource Plan. It happens for one user
only. That user is called Henrik, each time when we are trying to save
Resource Plan after adding Henrik to the resource plan (we tried in many
different resource plans each time is that some) we can see GENERAL ERROR. I
was checking in databases and I can find resource plan under Project
Published database\ MSP_RESOURCE_PLAN_ASSIGNMENTS. In this table I can see
other resources assigned to that resource plan (and that is perfect). In this
table I can't see henrik account assigned to the resource plan howether under
PWA web page I can see his account. Could you plase explain to me if is any
temporary database where that account is so I can see it under PWA before
pressing SAVE AND PUBLISH?

I was testing and on our test env (copy of prod) we do not have that problem
with that resource, that is eaven more confusing for me.

That is error message for General error:

Hi Gary,

Thank you for replay.
Yes I am sure that this user is a resource who can be assigned in a project
plan. He is reporting his time on PWA everyday. Is no problem with reporting
time and importing timesheets.
Only one problem is when resource is assigned to Resource Plan. Each time we
assign press Save or Save and Publish we have error General error: Work value
used is invalid. (Use this error information along with other errors to find
out the cause of the problem.)

I was also informed that that some problem is now for one more resource.

Interesting, what language version are you using? This may be an anomaly in
Project Server or it may be locale specific. Can you share the actual error
messages? Do you see corresponding errors in the ULS logs?

Hi Gary,

Sory for a late replay. And by the way "Ultimate Learning guide" very good
book :))

Well our settings on
1) Server 2003 SP2:
- English (United States)
location United States
2) Project Server 2007 ( withDec. cumulative update):
- from Project Web Access > Site Settings > Regional Settings English
(United States)

The most strange think is that "General Error" is only on one user per
Resource Plan, and only when period time is month.

Please let me know if you have any idea of that behaviour.

Hi Gary,

I would like to install SP2 asap. Howether I think it can take a long while
between we will implemend SP2 on prod. servers. That is because we are about
to prepare SP2 for client first. After rolling our SP2 to Project 2007 Pro we
will start installing SP2 on test and prod servers.

Problem situation:
All my colleaques from IT are reporting time (every week/day) on PWA. There
are not problems with reporting time and importing timesheets (except some
small problems sometimes). Whenone of our colleaques is added on Resource
Plans and:
Work Units : days or hours
Column Interval: Months (the most popular and easy for everybody).

We have General Error message as described before.

I think that error is only on specific resource (but this resource has no
problem with reporting time) We checked that account many times - seems to be
configured correctly as all others.

But Resource Plan works when Column Interval is set up for weeks - that is
strange.

Thank you for any help.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for replay.
Yes I am sure that this user is a resource who can be assigned in a

I was also informed that that some problem is now for one more

Hi Gary,

Thanks for help.
The most strange think is that I was trying to reporoduce that on test

reproduce it. I have that problem only on production. (Our test is copy from
prod)

If you will have anything plase let me know, some of our users are very
annoyed by that problem.

Thank you in advance :)

I created case for Microsoft, they can reproduce that error, but for now do
not know solution.

Hi,

I got replay from Microsoft consultant.
For now that is all I have, maybe can be usefull for anybody.
That is not permanent solution, if anybody can help here could be really
nice :)

I finally managed to find a way to reproduce the issue on your databases.

I found out that the problem lies if you set up a resource Calendar to have
a full month of vacation. It happens on months (and years, not on weeks and
days). (If the whole week is set to non working time and the week in the date
range covers the week, then the issue does not occur.)

If the whole month`s 4weeks is set as non working time and the 4 weeks are
running from Sunday to Saturday as with the very special month Feb which is
covering exactly 28 days - 4 whole weeks.

If one day in Feb 2009 is set to working day , then saving the res plan
works ok

This is occurring for different res. as well if we set the same calendar
exception as for Holger, therefore I suppose there is something wrong or
corrupt somewhere.

I think that applying both the April CU and the hotfix described here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;971066&sd=rss&spid=11388
that the problem should go away. Please let me know if you test this theory,
and how it goes.
