Resource Pool Causing Files to Crash; Project 2007

MrAlNather

Hi,

I have tried a number of newsgroups, but to no avail, and this makes
me wonder if I'm missing something elementary...I've been using MOPS
2007 and enterprise resources, but now have cause to be working
without a server.

The problem; using MSP 2007 Professional in "computer" profile. Two
files are sharing resources from a single resource pool. There are
also task links between the two "sharer" files. When I attempt to open
one of the sharer files the "update links" dialogue appears and the
hourglass. At the same the "open resource pool dialogue appears". Not
far behind is the "send error report dialogue" and project crashes.
This does not happen if the files do not have task links between
files.

If I open the resource pool read-write or read-only first, I can open
the files OK, but must close the sharer files before closing the
resource pool or a crash results.

Please help...

Have you ever over-written either file, renamed or moved any of them? If so,
then you most likely have a corruption. Unattach from the pool then delete
the pool, Break links between projects if possible. Try re-building links
but if this doesn't work, break all links again then save each project to
..xml format, then re-open and create new files.

Rod,

Thanks for the quick response...I've isolated the problem from
"interference" by creating brand new sharer files containing only one
task each and a brand new resource pool containing only two resources.
I have added one resource to the first file's task and the other to
the second file. I have tested by not "cross project" linking the
tasks and the problem does not occur. It is only when I have cross
project task links (of which I have a lot in the "real" files that
this happens).

Cross project links should not be a problem unless you ever over-write move
or rename any of the files.
