Resource Pool - Slow

T

Tammy

We use MSP 2003
We use a resource pool to manage over 200 resources - the pool is 6Kb
We have about 250 resources in the pool currently
We have about 45 plans attached to the pool currently
We are considering attaching another 250 resources and 80 project plans to
the pool.

What should we expect to see as far as system degradation and additional
error messages?

Thanks!

I would expect this to be unworkable in practical terms because of the
number of concurrent accesses to the pool that would be needed by all of
the project managers.

It sounds as though a migration to Project Server might be worth
consideration.

I would add that the likelihood of one or more file corruptions will be
high. I would investigate reporting methods using projects saved in
databases or creating master schedules by inserting projects with the Link
option OFF. This consolidates resource usage data for reporting purposes.
This process can be speeded up by recording a macro to create the snapshots.
