Resource submits non-working days

Laura

Hi,

I have the "Change working days" global permission turned
on. I am not totally sure how to use it though. I went to
the TASKS page and clicked "Notify mananger of days you
are not able to work on project." This just brought up a
screen saying I am not assigned to an Admin project.

In the help documentation though, it says if you have
Change working days turned on, it is not a good idea to
use Admin projects.

Anyone have some insight on how to enable the resources
to submitt nonworking days?

Thank you for your help!

You have two options for reporting nonworking time within Project Server:

1. Create one or more administrative projects and then use the Notify
manager of days..." option that you mention. This option is helpful for
collecting data about the total amount of time and cost spent for nonworking
time such as Vacations and Sick Leave. This option WILL NOT reschedule
projects automatically based on nonworking time submitted by resources,
however.

2. Do not use administrative projects, and instead, enter nonworking time
on each resource's personal calendar in the Enterprise Resource Pool.
Because there is no automatic method for doing so, you will need to
establish a process for your organization on how to report nonworking time.
In addition, the nonworking time should be submitted to one of your Project
Server administrators, who will then enter the time in the Enterprise
Resource Pool. Using this method will cause Project Server to automatically
reschedule projects based on the nonworking time entered for each resource
in the system.

Unfortunately, you cannot do both, which is what the documentation is
hinting at. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Maybe I am confused, we use both Admin. Projects (because we want resources
to be able to capture time-off on their timesheets) and we update the
resource's calendar ahead of time for planned time off (vacations etc.) to
show a resource's availability.

Am I missing something??? You stated you cannot use both.
