Resource Substitution

I have a global resource who is new to my project, who is replacing a
resource that has left. The resource who left has actual hours recorded, and
naturally, I need to keep those actual hours associated with the proper
resource. Ideally, I would like to take the remaining work of the resource
who left and assign it to the new resource. Is there an easy way to do this?

A second related problem--As a work-around in case there isn't an easy way
for the new resource to assume the old resource's remaining work, I thought
the new resource could assign herself to an existing task in Project Web
Access. She couldn't because the "Project" box wasn't populated with
available projects (presumably because she is not assigned to any activities
in my project). Is there a way to assign her to tasks in my project (if she
cannot assume the remaining work of the resource who left)?

Open the project. Select the task in question. Open the Assign
Resources dialog (the two little heads icon). Find the resource that
left. Select them. Click the Replace button. Select the new resource,
click OK.

Now the old resource's actual work is still there in an assignment and
the remaining work for that resource is assigned to the new one.

Brian:

Works great for swapping out resources within the project. But I still
cannot see the resource that I want to make the replacement to in the Replace
dialogue box. I checked in PWA 2003 to verify that the resource is listed in
the Resource Center. How do I get the Resource dialogue box to pick up this
resource within my project.

Thanks for your help.

Tim --

You need to add the resource to the project team using Tools - Build Team
from Enterprise. You can only use the Replace function in the Assign
Resources dialog with resources that are actually part of the project team.
Hope this helps.
