Resource Unit field to 0%

Hi,
Something strange is happening when I assign a resource
with 0% Unit (i use it for my generic resource).
If I create a new task, Fixed Unit, Effort Driven, 1 day
dur, 1 hr work. And then I assign a local resource at 0%
Unit, the result is that MSP put the duration to 0 day and
resource unit to 6000%.
This 6000% seams to be equal to 1hr=60mins or 60 Units.
If the Work was initially set to 24 hrs, then the Units
would be 144000%, meaning 24hrs=144000mins.

Does anyone can tell me is this behaviour is normal?

I tried to see if there is any information on the effect
of putting the Assignment Resource Unit to 0%. Any help?

Thanks.

Here's your problem:

Duration = Work/(Hours per Day x Units)

Duration = 1/(8 x 0%)

Duration = 1/0 = Infinity

I would recommend that you not use the approach you are taking to assign a
minimal amount of work to a generic resource. Instead of setting the Units
at 0%, why don't you set the Duration at 1 day, leave the Work at 0 hours,
and then simply assign the resource at 1% Units? When you do so, Microsoft
Project will calculate a token amount of Work. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,
thanks, we use this method (generic) to forcast work on
future project. So task are very high level and work is
quite high also. Since we do not know how many "Units" we
will need, we use generic (0 %) to get a clear figure in
the Resource Usage View (Resource work).

I think you know that your method of not working. Therefore, do not set the
Units value to 0%. Hope this helps.
