resource usage - names shown in red

I've resolved all overallocations within each enterprise project, and manually checked to see that no resource is allocated more work than they can acheive in any given period. However, i'm still getting some resource names appear in red in the resource usage view

Can anyone tell me why this is and how I can resolve it

Thanks in advanc

Hello Laura,

May be the average work evenly spread over a week or a month would seem OK,
but the resource works on 2 tasks on the same day. For ex. the resource
work 7h on a task and 21 on another one during the same week. So the total
work doesn't exceed the availability of the resource during a standard week.
But the 2 tasks overlap during one day...

Hi,

This is true, but for me is happening at hour level.
That is, 2 assignments may be scheduled at the same hour,
even if there is time enough for the resource that day.

I would love to see resources in normal conditions (not in
red), if they have less than their available time at day
level.

Is this possible?

Thanks
Jose

Try changing your Resource Leveling settings to week to week rather than day to day...

I would agree with Ellen, change it to the week by week
setting.

The real answer is the red doesn't mean they are
overallocated. It means Project is confused. You have
two or more tasks that are scheduled to start at the same
time for a particular resource and Project doesn't know
which should come first. Your response should be "we
employ professionals, they'll figure it out"

If you have true predecessors, put them in. If you
don't, many small tasks can occur in whatever order a
professional wants to put them in, so long as they get
their work done by the end of the week. You don't want
to micro manage your professionals and they don't want
you to as well.

To fix this so-called "problem", you have to put in a lot
of fake predecessors, which you may need to rip out next
week after everything changes. Get your folks to under
their Overallocation total. If you turn on the
Overallocation row in Resource usage, you'll be able to
see folks that go over their availability, such as over
40 if the person is available for 40 in the week. The
folks in red still show in red in the Work row, but they
don't show up in Overallocation, giving more credence to
the fact that they are not overallocated.
