Resource Usage view w/Server 2007

Can someone guide me to any documentation explaining how this view is
generated in MS Project Pro? I do not understand exactly what information the
program loads when I open multiple schedules from the server because it
seldom loads the same information the same way.

If I select to “Load Summary Resource Assignments†when opening Pro, and I
open say 6 schedules, is it the last schedule I open that will have accurate
resource information from the other open schedules or will all open schedules
now show accurate resource assignments for all of the other open schedules?

What do I do if I am trying to level against the enterprise and my many
resources are assigned in many, lets say 25 different schedules across the
organization, do I have to open all of these to be able to see an accurate
display of all of the work scheduled so that I can properly level my
resources against the enterprise?

When you select the "Load Summary Resource Assignments" option in the Login
dialog, and then open a project and apply the Resource Usage view, you will
see the following:

1. Resource assignments for tasks in the open project.
2. A single line listing for each additional project (not currently open)
to which each resource is assigned.
3. Timesheet actuals for each resource.

If you open multiple projects and apply the Resource Usage view in any one
of the projects, you will see the following:

1. Resource assignments for all of tasks in all of the open projects.
2. A single line listing for each additional project (not currently open)
to which each resource is assigned.
3. Timesheet information for each resource.

When you level an overallocated resource, item #2 can cause you real
problems. Because of this, before you attempt to do a leveling operation, I
recommend that you deselect the "Load Summary Resource Assignments" option
in the Login dialog. Then open each of the projects to which an
overallocated resource is assigned and level each resource individually in
the Resource Usage view. If the resource is overallocated across 25
projects, this means you must open all 25 of those projects. Hope this
helps.

Dale,

Your replies are always a great help, and thank you. I guess I am having a
hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that I have to open all of these
schedules from the server to see this information while leveling resources in
one schedule when it seems the server environment should do that for me in
the background when I open just the one schedule. Not to mention how now I
have to listen to my own complaints repeated back to me over and over as I
break this news to all of the project managers <grin>.

Thx again,
Darrell

Welcome to the club! :) If it is any consolation to you, this is how we
have had to level resources overallocated across multiple projects in both
previous versions of Project Server. And you are more than welcome for the
help, my friend.
