Resources changing dates in Web Access

Paul

I would like my resouces to be able to change dates on my
timelines in web access and submit them to me for
approval the same way the send updates on progress. For
example, if I mark a task as running from Nov 24 - Nov
26, I want my resouces to be able to change the date to
Nov 28-Dec 1 and submit them to me so I can approve or
decline the change.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how can I
set this up?

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

In essence, you want your resources to be able to set constraints on
tasks (which it sounds like you are also doing) and this is usually
not a good idea. You should let Project determine the start and finish
dates based on the durations and links between tasks. You should only
set a start or finish date if it is absolutely necessary. Your
resources should never do it themselves.

Paul --

If what you are asking will be needed by all project managers in your
company, then your company could add two enterprise custom Date fields to
the Enterprise Global. These custom date fields might be renamed as
"Revised Start" and "Revised Finish". Once these fields have been created,
each PM would need to open each of their projects and add these fields to
the list of fields being published by clicking Tools - Customize - Published
Fields. Once these new fields are added to the list of published fields,
each PM would also need to republish the assignments in each of their
projects by clicking Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments. This
action will "push" the new fields out to each user's timesheet.

Once done, your team members could use enter values in the Revised Start and
Revised Finish fields to alert you to any tasks whose dates may need to be
revised. You should know, however, that Microsoft Project will not adjust
ANY dates based on what is entered in these two custom fields. Rather,
these fields would be used by the team members for information purposes only
to alert YOU (the project manager), who would then need to adjust the tasks
accordingly. Hope these ideas help.
