Ressources are duplicated after renaming of resource

I needed to rename some of my resources in the resource pool file e.g. “x yâ€
was renamed to “x.yâ€
I assumed that all associated project plans would be updated with the new
resource name which mostly happened. What I am seeing however is that
sometimes this did not happen.

Is there a specific procedure which needs to be followed or is opening the
“resource pool†file in read/write mode and changing the name the right way
to do this

From what you say, changing the name of the resource in the shared
resource file should do the trick. It has always worked for me.

What could be be happening is that what you *think* is the same resource
because it has the same name is not in fact the same resource. Project
links resources with ID numbers. It could be that those resources that
did not change were in fact not resources with the same ID?

(The name is just one of may properties of the resource. It is not the
bit of information which links shared resources together in shared
resource files).

Hi Ralph,

When you created the connection between the pool file and the sharer
files, did you leave the option "On conflict with calendar or
resource information " to the default -- "Pool takes precedence."?
It's possible that one or more of your files is set to "Sharer takes
precedence" and that is why you are not seeing the change.

I suggest opening the pool read/write and then opening all sharer
files. Double check through Tools > Resource Sharing > Share
resources. Make the changes and carefully save and close all files.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Rob

In this case it didnt work correctly. Found out that one project file still
contained the resource with the old name. I selected the right resource there
and that fixed the problem.

Strange.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Hi Julie

I chewcked that and all files had the right setting. Saying that I found out
that the name wasnt changed automatically in all files. Had to fix it up
manually and that worked.

Thanks for you help.

Curious. Was that file still linked? (At this point, I would look in
the shared resources file at all the linked files to just check that all
is well).
