restart bullet numbering

David Thielen

Hi;

If I am creating a list as:
1. foo
2. bar
some regular text
1. dave
2. thielen

Is there a way where both lists can have the same list properties but the
renumbering can be started on the paragraph "dave"? Or do I need to have a
seperate list property assigned to the "dave" para set to restart numbering?

This is more a rtf/WordML question - but this is the only place to ask
(where it will get answered).

Hi Dave,

This newsgroup is mainly discussing how to make COM Addins.
For your issue, it seems to be more of an issue about how to use Word
formatting feature.

Also for Office XML issue I suggest post in the newsgroup below.
microsoft.public.office.xml

Thanks!

Best regards,

Peter Huang

Numbering is nasty business; not my forté... Take a look at the
ApplyListTemplate method for the ListFormat object (as in set a range object
to the paragraph you want to affect, then use its ListFormat property).

You'll need to have assigned the ListTemplate in question to an object
variable so that you can use it as the first parameter. You might have
generated it already, in your code, or you pick it up from any of the
paragraphs involved.

For more information on how Word's numbering is functioning behind the scenes,
I recommend Margaret Aldis's (www.syntagma.demon.co.uk) and Shauna Kelly's
(www.shaunakelly.com) websites. If you need to discuss the nitty-gritty, try a
cross-post to word.numbering and word.vba.general. If he's around, try getting
Steve Hudson's ear. He knows a lot, but tends to be very short and cryptic -
I think you can handle it :)

As a general rule, be very careful with applying numbering: you want to keep
the ListTemplates in a document to a minimum. The object model doesn't provide
any interface for deleting ListTemplates (short of editing the XML file
directly) and you have to be extremely careful when using them.
