Hi Bob -
I have seen where sometimes this error means that the program associated
with the object you are attempting to insert is not recognized by Access as
a valid OLE Server.
For example, if the object is a .bmp, make sure that Paint and/or
Photoeditor is being used as the default (when the image is double clicked
from outside of Access it opens in one of these programs). You can
check/change the File Associations to run with specific programs by open
Windows Explorer and go to Tools/Folder Options/File Types. (To continue
the example - Locate .bmp in the list and alter it to point to Microsoft
Paint or Microsoft
PhotoEditor. After the association has been altered, you can try inserting
the object again.)

Generally this is caused by Norton Antivirus. Take a look at this article
and see if it addresses the issue you are experiencing.
